2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. GMC Sierra 1500

All Things Equal

Many of the features of the 2026 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 are the same. They both have a 2.7L turbo I4 base engine, which offers up to 310 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive is standard for the base trim on both models with two doors and one row of seating. They even rate identical gas mileage, but the Sierra 1500 includes an automatic start/stop system to conserve fuel at stop lights. Once you get to the higher trims, you’ll notice more differences. Though the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 provides a V6 turbo engine compared to a V8 for the Sierra 1500, both models get almost identical mileage with the Chevy truck coming out slightly ahead. The top trim for the Silverado is diesel while the GMC top trim has a gas engine. Sierra 1500 offers more horsepower at this level while the Silverado 1500 provides more torque. You get slightly more towing capacity with the Sierra 1500 while the Silverado 1500 provides more payload.

Comfort Level

The base trims of the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 offer the basics, such as power windows and doors. Chevy provides the option of vinyl seating for the base trim, making it easy to clean up after a dirty job. GMC seats are cloth for the base trim. The highest trims of both models are equipped with heated and cooled front seats and power seats with lumbar support, though the GMC truck has more positioning options. Chevy provides one setting for the driver’s seat memory while GMC offers two settings for two drivers.

Connectivity

Both Chevy and GMC understand that most buyers want the basics when it comes to tech, which is why the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on the base trim. Bluetooth is also standard, but only GMC features wireless charging on the entry trim. Forward Collision Warning and Lane Keep Assist are standard safety features across the line on both the Chevy and GMC models. The top trims include a seven-speaker Bose audio system and in-vehicle Wi-Fi. They also come with a long list of safety features, such as:
